Overview
Galle, situated on the southwest coast of Sri Lanka is a blessed destination on the island as it essentially attracts almost every visitor. It is located 119 km away from Colombo yet a true holiday escape. The history of Galle is its iconic fact that runs back to the 16th century when it was the main port of Sri Lanka before the arrival of the Portuguese.
Galle is the best example of a fortified city built by the Dutch and Portuguese reflecting their architectural mastery through buildings which are now a beautiful collection with a rocky coastline that attracts travelers. Shaped by centuries of diverse European influence, Galle is a blend of charm and sophistication along with a unique cultural identity. The main fortress is a world heritage and the largest remaining fortress built by European occupiers and it is the city’s signature landscape while a walk through streets sided by quaint boutiques and cafes will soothe the mind.

Take an exciting walk through Galle Dutch Fort which boasts of colorful history.
This was originally built by the Portuguese in the 16th century and later developed in the 17th century, during the Dutch Colonial period.
The Dutch Fort is now a UNESCO World Heritage site in Sri Lanka and is the largest remaining fortress in Asia built by European occupiers.

Stilt fishing is a traditional fishing technique in Sri Lanka is famous that the wooden poles are erected generally 2 meters above the sea bed and the fishermen sit or stand on a wooden crossbar.
Stilt fishing will make beautiful scenery to be captured in a picture.
